The Q’ero people, descendants of the Inca, tell a powerful and ancient prophecy known as the Eagle and the Condor. This story speaks of two great birds: the Eagle, representing the mind, rational thought and the industrialized, technological societies of the North; and the Condor, representing the heart, intuition, and the earth-centred, spiritual cultures of the South.

According to the prophecy, humanity would enter a period of deep imbalance, dominated by the Eagle—logic, materialism, and disconnection from nature. During this time, the Condor would almost be driven to extinction, symbolizing the near destruction of spiritual and indigenous ways of life. This imbalance would last for centuries.

However, the prophecy also foretells a time when the Eagle and the Condor will once again fly together in the same sky. This moment marks the potential for a great reconciliation—a reunification of heart and mind, of technology and spirituality, of North and South. When the two birds fly together, it is said, humanity will enter a new era of balance, harmony, and higher consciousness.

The Q’ero and many other indigenous groups see this time as now. The resurgence of indigenous wisdom, the growing interest in spiritual practices, and global movements for environmental and social healing are viewed as signs that the Eagle and the Condor are beginning to fly together once more.
